Nissan Micra 1.4 Urbis - One Minute Test

Date: 26 January 2006

What's new: Nissan's base 88PS 1.4 becomes the cheapest coupe cabriolet around, offering top-down posing with tin-top security.

Excellent: It's one of the best drives in its class, with a light airy cabin courtesy of a glass panoramic roof and surprisingly generous boot space.

Good: 1.4 spins sweetly, costs are competitive, attracting a BIK of just 18% and a CPM of just 23.0p.

Average: The effeminate, slightly awkward lines appeal, but lack the universal charm of the Mini.

Poor: Rear seats are near useless. Lofty driving position won't suit some. Opting for aircon costs £500.

Verdict: It's good, but consider the 101PS 1.6 Sport version instead. For £845 more, or 0.9ppm, you get standard aircon, grippier 16-inch alloys and noticeably more performance, with only a 1% BIK penalty and slight increase in fuel cost.
