boot

In spite of the drought warnings plaguing the south-east of England, all it seems to have done during any journey I take is pelt it down.

I don't own a hosepipe, so the prospect of a ban hasn't exactly been keeping me awake at night. What has been bothering me, though, is the Hyundai's tendency to retain a small amount of water within the tailgate rain gutters.

Every time I open the boot, the equivalent of two saucers of water deposit themselves over my torso, to the point where I've taken to leaping a couple of feet backwards to avoid the splash. It draws the odd quizzical stare from onlookers, but at least I stay dry.

I'm not the only member of the BusinessCar team to have noticed it either, as others have arrived in the office with soggy coats after pinching the keys for a night. It's a negligible complaint on what is otherwise an impressive fleet car, but it's enough to get your goat during the rainy season.
