BMW 530d GT SE Test Drive Review

Date: 13 August 2014

BusinessCar reviews the new BMW 530d

BMW has mildly revised the 5-series GT for the 2014 model year. The changes are minimal and largely cosmetic, and consist of slightly different headlamps and a neater rear end, as well as adding a new entry 520d GT model.

Work beneath the skin means all of the available engines now meet Euro6 emissions standards (due to come into effect from September 2015 for existing models), but the focus there is more on NOx emissions as opposed to tax-friendly CO2.

BusinessCar sampled the 258hp 530d model. It's rapid for a big car, with a 0-62mph time of 6.2 seconds, and the ride is exceptional. It's as plush and roomy as you'd expect a big, posh BMW to be, but ultimately, a 5-series Touring (estate), or a 3-series for that matter, will be more practical.

The BMW is in no way cheap, but at 101.4ppm it stacks up favourably next to direct rivals such as the Audi A7, which records 104.7ppm in 3.0 TDI Quattro 245 guise, and the Mercedes CLS350 3.0 CDi 265, which comes in at 111.9ppm.
