Surprise all-time high as fleet registrations surge

While September's always a top month for fleet sales thanks to the new registration plate, the industry didn't quite expect to be celebrating a new record.
Though there may be questions about the amount of incentives and forced volume, September was a massive month, with 187,528 new models registered.
As expected, the prestige German brands responded to a slow August by picking up all the acquisitions that were held off until the arrival of the '56' plate on 1 September.
VW and Audi's impressive results can also be put down partly to their mainstream models being at favourable points in the model cycle - old enough to be up to full supply but young enough to be desirable.
The battle between Peugeot and Renault is still hot, the latter winning out by just eight cars last month.
New breed of supermini-MPVs fuel growth
Supermini-MPVs showed the biggest growth among the mainstream segments last month, with the Nissan Note jumping straight to the top of the segment, taking 28.4% market share.
In the smaller segments, roadsters, cabrios, citycars and luxury saloons all showed at least 23% growth, from an admittedly low base.
