Best MPV - Ford Galaxy

Date: 24 January 2007

Ford Galaxy

Being the Ford Galaxy compared to the S-max must be the equivalent of being the non-identical twin of a Hollywood starlet. Both are handsome, talented actors, but only one lands the mega-buck roles and only one commands the crowd adoration.

The Galaxy is a mere 50mm longer but takes on a more family-orientated role. Where the S-max is brash and flashy, the Galaxy is smart and understated, and it's unmistakably an MPV through and through. It even makes up for the crimes of its past.

Fold-flat seating finally replaces the bulky nail-splitting armchairs that needed to be manhandled out to make space, and the passengers or luggage dilemma, has been solved with the Galaxy being able to handle both with aplomb.

Ford fleet boss Kevin Griffin tells of the task that faced the engineers: "We needed to meet the needs for a large MPV to retain its customer base, but importantly, not neglect the key driving dynamics that are the blueprint to all Ford vehicles."
