The start point for the best source of fleet information

Awards 2009 - Small 4x4: Audi Q5

Date: 27 January 2009

Fleet operators have taken the Q5 straight to their hearts.

It's only been on sale a few weeks and yet it's beaten the likes of BMW's X3, multiple small 4x4 BusinessCar champion the Land Rover Freelander, and our 2008 winner the Honda CR-V.

The Q5 scored an easy victory in this category thanks to a combination of great practicality, a good drive and low predicted running costs for the most popular 2.0 TDI diesel.

The interior is based on the impressive A4's cabin so there's no worry over quality or appeal, and the Q5's styling takes on the attractive quality of a more compact Q7.

The car continues Audi's policy of filling out its range to meet buyers' widening desires, and rather than just continuing with its traditional product line-up of volume A3, A4 and A6 models, the range has grown with niche product such as the A5 coupe, Q7 large 4x4, and now its baby brother Q5. This process has taken the pressure off growth aspirations, with increasing volume coming from incremental new sectors rather than forcing more volume from the established models.
