Awards 2010 - Environment Award: BMW Efficient Dynamics

Date: 26 January 2010

BMW's low CO2 Efficient Dynamics tech helped it win the Olympic bid

The 2010 BusinessCar Environment Award is not only BMW's second headline award this year, but it's also the second year running it's taken this prize, which demonstrates the strength of the Efficient Dynamics package. The double win shows the amount of work that has gone into making the Efficient Dynamics package great and also shows how much effort keeps being put into the project to keep it at the forefront of the industry.

The development costs have paid off for BMW, not only with awards such as this, but also in terms of sales - BMW has performed ahead of the market in what has been a very tough year.

Toward the end of last year BMW scooped the contract to supply the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with more than 4000 vehicles, mainly because of the prestige manufacturer's commitment to producing low-CO2 cars. Speaking at the time, Ian Robertson, member of the board of management of BMW, responsible for sales and marketing, said: "Sustainability is a central pillar of our business and guides all aspects of our operations, so we have a natural affinity with London 2012. We see our partnership as a major opportunity, over the next three years and beyond, to focus attention on our range of the most fuel-efficient premium cars."

His comments were backed by London Olympic Committee chairman Sebastian Coe, who said: "They [BMW] share our vision to stage a sustainable Games in 2012 and will be a valued partner. We welcome BMW on board and look forward to working with them over the next three years. They have a vital role in keeping the Games moving and ensuring those working at the Games are where they need to be."

BMW has also revealed a concept Efficient Dynamics supercar to show how far the fuel and emissions-saving technology could go. The BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics hybrid (pictured above) has a power output of 356PS, is capable of 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds yet will still return 75mpg, has emissions of 99g/km and can carry four.

Commitment to environmental technology such as this illustrates BMW's commitment to making its cars greener.
