The start point for the best source of fleet information

Techies 2010 - Best Telematics System: ALD Automotive ProFleet2

Date: 24 August 2010

In this ever-growing market sector, ALD Automotive's telematics system stood apart among the Techies entries. ProFleet2, which launched in 2004, is integrated with ALD's contract hire offer and has recently been upgraded with a GPS version. According to the company, this development enhances functionality and increases benefits for fleet managers and drivers making "it quicker, easier, cheaper and greener to operate a fleet of vehicles".

The software provides companies with information on employees' driving behaviour, alerting them to events that might impact cost, risk management and the environment.

A dashboard layout gives a summary of performance and highlights trends, enabling fleets to reward improvement or target specific training. ProFleet2 can also notify fleets by SMS or email through a 'custom alert' facility, for certain actions such as harsh braking or driving without breaks. Our telematics awardee also allows businesses to benchmark themselves against ProFleet2 data from other fleet operators.

Two companies - Satmo and Trafficmaster - were worthy of highly commended status.

Satmo Vehicle Tracking impressed the judges in this hotly contested sector, particularly with its software's ability to give live, accurate mpg readings for any time period, from a day to a year. Its capability to retrospectively report and show the difference between the route driven and the recommended route allows companies to increase driver productivity. It also had an iPhone application, i-Satmo, approved by Apple.

Trafficmaster's Fleet Director telematics system reduces fuel bills by up to 30%, cuts overtime by 15%, reduces unauthorised vehicle use by 12% and increases productivity by 12%, according to the company. It works with Trafficmaster's Smartnav and can even identify the closest vehicle to a customer based on live traffic conditions.
