Awards 2012 - Executive: Jaguar XF

Date: 24 January 2012

Jaguar has pipped Lexus to the post in the 2012 JD Power survey.

The XF has always offered appeal to those in the market for an executive car, but as the majority of business car sales across the board are of lower-powered diesel models, the Jag wasn't competing in the volume end of the segment.

That changed last year when the firm added a new 2.2-litre 190hp diesel engine to the range, aiming squarely for the likes of BMW's 520d or the 170hp 2.0 TDI Audi A6.

The new engine arrived alongside a facelift that saw a sharper and more attractive front end grafted onto the XF, which combined with the 149g/km figure, increases the car's appeal to the corporate sector. Jaguar predicted at the launch of the new engine that the 2.2, priced at less than £31,000, would attract a 60% fleet ratio, compared with the 23% average for the pre-facelift model.

For those wanting more power, there's also the 275hp 3.0 diesel, the 385hp 5.0-litre V8 petrol or the epic supercharged 510hp XFR.

All the range needs now is an estate version, as wagons account for around half of sales in the sector, depending on the model. The good news is that we will see a load-lugging XF on sale by the end of this year.
