Awards 2012 - Telematics: TomTom Business Solutions

TomTom Business Solutions is now enjoying its fourth victory in as many years in our telematics category. The firm seems to be forever gaining in size and clout, having surpassed 1.5 million users for its Live services in December - up from under 700,000 at the beginning of the year - and surpassing the 175,000 mark for the number of vehicles tracked.
Sales director Giles Margerison (pictured) said the company's biggest challenge is getting drivers to accept the technology but that this was improving: "The elephant in the room is still driver reaction. There are big driver benefits but companies have to be skilled and position the technology correctly so it's adopted in the right manner, which can be done - and it's getting better and better." He added that as the market consolidates and businesses become more careful, TomTom's products give companies the tools to do something about costs.
TomTom is also one of a growing number of companies to latch on to the trend for smartphone apps designed for fleet users. It introduced the Webfleet Mobile app in November, offering managers the ability to instantly locate their fleet without having to sit in front of a computer. It also makes use of the firm's satellite navigation technology and keeps the user abreast of the current traffic situation.
