Awards 2012 - Vehicle Recovery: The AA

Date: 24 January 2012

It's a hat-trick of consecutive wins in the vehicle recovery category for the UK's largest breakdown organisation, which claims to help 3.5 million people a year with an average repair time of under 30 minutes.

For businesses, the company's coverage can be managed online with vehicles added as required, while the AA claims four out of five cars it attends are fixed by the roadside, with no charge for labour.

The firm has even solved the problem of locating stranded vehicles with a free app, launched 12 months ago, that can guide the patrolman via his iPhone GPS tracker. The app also gives traffic information through AA Roadwatch and offers reminders for vehicle servicing, insurance, tax MoT and breakdown cover renewal.

In recent times, The AA has launched a device to repair cars that have been misfuelled, as well as specific battery, car key and glass services.

The company even has a dedicated Special Operations Response Team to help the standard teams in periods of severe weather. The SORT vehicles, mainly Land Rover Defenders, have been put to action in everything from the Cumbrian floods of 2009 to muddy music festival car parks and recent snowy winters.
