Techies 2012 - Best App: Vauxhall RoadTrip

The winner of the Best App category, Vauxhall's RoadTrip allows drivers to work out the exact mileage and costs from business trips and generates an accurate expenses report. The service is free, can be used by anyone - regardless of whether or not they drive a Vauxhall - and can be operated across multiple vehicles and different mileage rates.
There are numerous other intricate features too, including the ability to track journeys via GPS, transfer information to other devices and back up existing saved data. The only element that counted against it is the fact that the existing app is currently only available for iPhone users. However, the firm has rectified this and will launch a revised version before the end of the year, which will be available for Android phones and iPads and offer additional features.
Alphabet's Alphaguide and GreenRoad's Central apps share the Highly Commended prize. Our judges praised the former's convenience and assistance with everyday fleet management queries and its capacity to assist drivers in emergencies and after accidents. The latter received praise for making driver performance and safety data available to fleet managers on their mobiles, as well as showing them where drivers are at any given time.
