BusinessCar Awards 2013 - Large 4x4: BMW X5

Date: 22 January 2013

BMW's big off-roader is a six-time winner of BusinessCar's Large 4x4 of the Year award, but it was the closest-run category in the car awards section, with a tiny number of votes separating the victorious X5 from the Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Sport.

But it was the X5 that won through, and the best-handling large off-roader, also the first big diesel off-roader to break under the 200g/km mark, is a worthy winner. Left largely alone during a year that saw much revision across the majority of BMW's range, the X5 has enough quality to stay ahead in the BusinessCar Awards voting.

The only recent change since the late 2010 mid-life facelift came with the X5 M50d model, a 381hp version of the 3.0-litre diesel capable of reaching 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds despite retaining the 199g/km and 37.7mpg figures also offered by the less powerful 30d and 40d models.
