BusinessCar Awards 2013 - MPV: Ford S-max

Date: 22 January 2013

Seven years after its original launch and the same number of BusinessCar award wins later, the S-max is still believed to be the best people carrier on the market by our readers.

Even more of a feather in Ford's cap is the fact that it hasn't changed much since its arrival, which proves the company got it right first time.

The S-max isn't the biggest MPV around, nor is it the largest in Ford's stable, which is the Galaxy. It uses the available space inside the cabin in a clever fashion though - the interior ceiling is carved out so adults can fit in the rearmost seats in comfort, which is a rarity for even full-sized MPVs. The seats themselves fold and slide in the most practical manner, only rivalled by Vauxhall's Zafira Tourer.

It still looks fresh after seven years and minimal cosmetic work, while Ford's range of TDCi diesel and Ecoboost petrol engines keep things suitably clean for a big car, with a low of 139g/km from the 1.6 TDCi with stop/start.

Ford's trend for making cars that are engaging to drive continues with the S-max, despite its practical priorities.
