The start point for the best source of fleet information

BusinessCar Awards 2013 - Sports: Audi R8

Date: 22 January 2013

For one category only, emissions, BIK and cost per mile go almost completely out of the window. Even within the cost-driven fleet sector, the best performance cars have to appeal first on emotional grounds - and the Audi R8 has more than its fair share.

This is the second consecutive win for the R8 and it marks four triumphs on the trot for Audis in this category, the TT and the A5 Coupe also being past masters.

The R8 first reared its head in 2007 and was initially available only as a coupe with a 4.2-litre V8 engine. It was unashamedly aimed at the Porsche 911 and, after being joined by open-top Spyder, V10 and GT variants, has proved itself to be a pain in the Porsche's side ever since.

The menacing styling alone is enough to turn heads and the performance is breathtaking. The entry-level 4.2-litre V8 model will hit 62mph in 4.6secs - go for the 5.2-litre V10 with the seven-speed S-tronic auto gearbox and that figure drops by a second. Prices start at £90,490 and top-out at £126,490, while fuel economy, if you're really bothered, is 19mpg from the V10 or 22.8mpg from the most economical 4.2 S-tronic model.
