JULIE JENNER: Different role, same passion

Date: 03 September 2013

Julie Jenner has stepped down as ACFO chairman after seven years heading up the fleet managers' association. But, as she tells Paul Barker, she'll be as involved as ever in the future of the organisation.
"I'll work harder to be more strategic. I'll be an out-and-about person, helping develop relationships."

"I'll have no specific title, but it's recognised that I will work harder to be more strategic. I'll be an out-and-about person, helping develop relationships and I want some time to stop and think about things we should be providing."

So begins the new era for car fleet operators' association ACFO as Julie Jenner stepped down from chairman  to be replaced by Bracknell Forest Council's Damian James, a BusinessCar Techies judge and former BusinessCar blogger, who made the step up from deputy to lead the organisation.

Jenner has remained on the board, and is hoping that by handing the baton of chairing ACFO onto James, assisted by new deputy Caroline Sandall of Barclays, she will now be able to give attention to some of the other projects that haven't yet been addressed.

Asked to reflect on her time at the head of ACFO, Jenner's first reaction is that it's been "bloody time-consuming", although after that light-hearted response she gives a more detailed analysis.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed it, which is why I wanted to stay on the board," she tells BusinessCar. "Having been a spokesperson for the press, led the national council, changed the Membership Secretariat Office and launched the new website, I wanted to do something different. You can get bogged down in all of that and lose sight of where you want ACFO to go; get bogged down in the operational and lose sight of the strategic."
