The start point for the best source of fleet information

The BusinessCar Interview: James Taylor, Vauxhall

Insignia

Taylor is particularly proud of the Insignia's performance in the UK, and its impact was recognised by BusinessCar readers, who voted to make it the best Mainstream Upper Medium model in the magazine's 2015 awards.

Taylor puts the car's UK success down to the way Vauxhall repositioned the car versus premium competitors and the fact it was fresh versus the end-of-generation Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen
Passat rivals. The competition will be harder this year as replacement models come on-stream to fleet choice lists.

Taylor says Vauxhall will continue to be aggressive with the Insignia, and claims it is attracting drivers from premium saloons like the BMW 3-series, while there are even people upsizing due to the car's running costs.

"The Insignia has the sort of running costs comparable with some models in the segment below, so a lot of drivers know they can get much more car for the same monthly payments," he explains. "So we're seeing people coming out of superminis and lower medium cars into upper medium."

Taylor says this is driven by the Insignia's 98g/km best-in-class diesel. If Vauxhall can replicate the success it has seen with the Insignia with the Corsa and Astra, it could help push the brand towards its goal of taking the lead with regard to true fleet registrations.
