REMARKETING: Alternative fuels make inroads, but many fleets still sceptical

Regulations

Henstock also believes that new remarketing industry regulations may be on the horizon to govern official reports on the condition of such vehicles as they become more common in the used marketplace: "A comprehensive report will help satisfy buyers as to mechanical and cosmetic condition and it is quite possible that different guidelines will be introduced to account for the specific needs of electric vehicles - battery condition, for example."

Amos claims that operators should be conscious of the location in which they choose to sell alternative-fuel vehicles, as this has the potential to impact on demand and successful sales: "Different areas of the country see different demand for these, with congestion zone exemption etc. Care should be taken to dispose of these vehicles in the correct location, as well as at the right time, which applies to all vehicles."

McCall echoes Amos's sentiments about the location factor with plug-in vehicles, saying: "The only caveat with plug-in vehicles is that the purchaser must be made aware that the appropriate, safe and legal recharging infrastructure is in place."
