Consultant Colin Tourick answers Barker's Dozen

Date: 25 August 2008

Colin Tourick

1. What was your first job? Articled clerk for a firm of chartered accountants in London. A form of childhood slavery that is, thankfully, long behind us.

2. What was your first company car? Ford Capri 1.8GL. I loved it.

3. What did you listen to on your last car journey? Robbie Williams Live at Knebworth. I attended the gig. My ears have only just recovered.

4. What one thing do you wish you could do better? Multi-task. Or get to bed before 2am. (Am I allowed two things?)

5. What's your biggest achievement? Personal achievements would include qualifying as a chartered accountant, getting a masters degree from LSE and being appointed visiting professor at University of Buckingham Business School. Business achievements would include building several leasing businesses and launching the BVRLA MBA course.

6. Who are your role models? I don't have any.

7. What's the stupidest thing you've done? My early career choices were not particularly wise. I chose company after company that was then either taken over or closed down. It has been a great learning experience but some stability might have been nice too.

8. What was the most hotly debated topic at your last meeting? What the new tax rules in the budget will mean to business cars.

9. What's in your garage? A wine cellar.

10. What's the worst thing about your job? Nothing at all. I love it.

11. What one law would you make or change? I would make Electronic Stability Controls mandatory in all cars.

12. What keeps you awake at night? Nothing. I sleep very soundly.

13. Who is your ideal celebrity date? Humphrey Littleton. Wit, raconteur, jazz musician. He'd have me in stitches.
