Nigel Davies of Auto Windscreens answers Barker's Dozen

Date: 06 July 2009

Auto Windscreens sales and marketing director Nigel Davies

Chilling out, talking a good game and Hawaiian Tropic girls' - it can only be Auto Windscreens' Nigel Davies

1. What was your first job?

It was probably a sign of things to come but I was 15 and working in the village pub. It started off clearing the tables and washing glasses at the weekend but within weeks developed into a fully fledged barman even though I was three years too young.

2. What was your first company car?

A Ford Sierra 2.0L - it felt like the big time.

3. What did you listen to on your last car journey?

Chilled by Ministry of Sound.

4. What one thing do you wish you could do better?

Definitely play rugby like a pro. I have all the talk and none of the skills.

5. What's your biggest achievement?

In 2001 some friends and I cycled from East Grinstead in Sussex to Paris in two days to raise money for my son's hospital. Through the kind generosity of my clients in the fleet industry we raised over £12,000 for the children's unit.

6. Who are your role models?

My father was a huge influence on my life as he had come from the toughest of backgrounds in Merthyr Tydfil, achieved so much in his lifetime and yet remained down to earth.

7. What's the stupidest thing you've done?

I caught the Eurostar from Paris on a direct train to St Pancras. Sadly my car was parked in Ashford, Kent.

8. What was the most hotly debated topic at your last meeting?

Definitely management information for clients. Our systems allow for such vast specialist reporting. The sales team want more and the MI team start weeping.

9. What's in your garage?

My wife's hobby room takes up most of the garage now. The remainder is bicycles, pots of mouldy paint and an unused set of golf clubs.

10. What's the worst thing about your job?

My office backs onto the canteen so from 8 o'clock in the morning the waft of fresh bacon cooking is a torture.

11. What one law would you make or change?

If you are a persistent law breaker then any entitlement to Government financial support is removed until you have earned the right to get it back.

12. What keeps you awake at night?

Absolutely nothing.

13. Who is your ideal celebrity date?

I'm a man of simple means - the [skin care company] Hawaiian Tropic girls' promotion team will do.
