The BVRLA's chief exec mentions Pink Floyd and 'The Reds'

What was your first job?
I had a weekend job as a tyre fitter at Watford Gap.

What was your first company car?
A Triumph TR7.

What did you listen to on your last car journey?
Pink Floyd.

What one thing do you wish you could do better?
Relax!

What's your biggest achievement?
Creating a global financial services unit for Volvo Cars during the economic meltdown of 2008-10.

Who are your role models?
Former Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

What's the stupidest thing you've done?
I made a very bad career choice in the 1980s. It was the wrong company, the wrong time, and it lasted less than 12 months.

What was the most hotly debated topic at your last meeting?
With limited resources, what activities should an association like the BVRLA
be prioritising.

What's in your garage?
A Mountfield lawn tractor.

What's the worst thing about your job?
I've only been in the role 12 months, so it's still new and challenging - but I enjoy it 100%.

What one law would you make or change?
I believe in empowering and trusting individuals generally to make the right decisions and do the right things, so a law to reduce the size and influence of government would get my support.

What keeps you awake at night?
In a career spent constantly travelling around the world, I've learnt that you sleep whenever you have the chance. So I'm very fortunate that I have no problem sleeping.

Who is your ideal celebrity date?
I enjoy a lively evening, so would have to invite footballers Luis Suarez and Branislav Ivanovic [as the former bit the latter in an on-field incident last year].
