Nora Leggett of BVRLA answers Barker's Dozen

Date: 10 February 2016   |   Author:

1 What was your first job?

I was a graduate management trainee at Hertz Rent-a-Car.

2 What was your first company car, and what do you drive now?

We didn't have allocated cars back then, but a Ford Capri 1.6 was the vehicle most often 'available' when it was time for me to go home. I now lease a Lexus CT200h Advance.

3 What did you listen to on your last car journey?

I am a big Radio 4 fan, but when stuck in traffic, I need something more uplifting. Aretha Franklin does it for me - she has a magnificent voice: soaring and soulful.

4 What do you wish you could do better?

As a keen tennis player, I would very much like to improve one particular shot - the backhand down the lin

5 What's your biggest achievement?

Ours is such a fantastic, fast-paced industry and it sounds a cliché to talk about giving something back to it - but that's what I do, it is my achievement and I hope to carry on for a little while yet.

6 What are your three favourite films?

It's very difficult to choose just three, but I'd have to include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. That was my son's favourite, so it became one of mine because I saw it so often.

I'd also add that I loved Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry and, more recently, I've enjoyed Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

7 What's the stupidest thing you've done?

When I was a teenager, I persuaded my two younger sisters to let me dye and cut their hair. They were unable to leave the house for a week and they have never forgiven me to this day for their orange/red pudding basin bobs.

8 What was the most hotly debated topic at your last meeting?

Who to choose as our after-dinner speaker and comedian for our annual dinner in March 2016.

9 What would be your specialist subject on Mastermind?

18th and 19th-century French literature.

10 What's the worst thing about your job?

Driving from Woking to Amersham every day on the M25.

11 What one law would you make or change?

I would give more financial support to artists, writers, musicians and performers. I go to the Edinburgh Fringe every year and see some fantastically gifted people giving great pleasure to audiences but who earn a mere pittance.

12 What did you want to be when you grew up?

A hairdresser, but my ambition was thwarted by my lack of talent in that area

13 Who is your ideal celebrity date?

Roger Federer.
