Van news

Now I know that this publication is predominately aimed at business car users but I expect there are many readers out there that also are involved with light vans in one form or another. So this week I want to talk vans, if you will indulge me.

You may be surprised to find out that van manufacturers will only be required to measure MPG and emission data from January 2008 and won't be forced to publish this data. Fortunately there are a few fleet friendly manufacturers that have taken the sensible decision of releasing it anyway but some have totally ignored their customer's wishes and won't publish. To those unhelpful manufacturers I say this - "get a grip on reality" otherwise you will be in danger of losing customers that you have fought so hard to get in the first place.

Maybe they have something to hide?

In addition to the unsatisfactory situation above would it also surprise you to find out that there isn't a Euro NCAP rating for any light commercial vehicle. If the industry has been testing it cars for 10 years it surely wouldn't be a great leap to extend these tests to the LCV market. Maybe van drivers are running around in potential death traps. Perhaps that's why no-one want to test them?

If we can only get Euro NCAP testing through consumer pressure then let's put some pressure on and do it now!
