BusinessCar Office Blog: 27 March 2009 - Market shenanigans

BusinessCar Office, yesterday

Been talking to a few car makers recently about how the market's shaping up for March and the new '09 plate.

Seems things are running broadly the same as February, in that sales are down nearly 30%.

However, it seems car makers are paying more attention to market share, rather than outright sales in these constrained times.

One smaller company, with a decent share for the month so far, is convinced the higher volume players will be registering cars in a big way on Monday and Tuesday to maintain their 'usual' share of the market.

Maybe it's no surprise that the car makers have publicised their price increases for April in plenty of time for buyers to make use of the lower pricing in March.

We'll have to wait and see.

PS. Congratulations to Lee Hamlet from Inchcape Fleet Solutions who achieved the best fuel figure on the Honda Insight fleet driving event I attended on Monday. Lee won the eco-driving contest with a figure of 66.3mpg.
