Damian James' Blog: 19 January 2008 - Commercial vehicle crunch

Date: 19 January 2009

Damian James is Head of Transport Provision for Bracknell Forest Council and a technology champion

I would normally start with wishing everyone a Happy New Year but I'm not sure that at the beginning of this year it's very appropriate. The motor industry and related businesses are being hit hard by the credit crunch.

Everyday there is more news about cut backs, job losses and closures. One of the latest blows for the industry is the news that the 2009 Commercial Vehicle Show which was scheduled for April has been cancelled.

Having been a visitor to the show a number of times I was always staggered by the sheer size of it. It was one of those events where pre-planning was essential so you could get the most out of your visit. Without it you were in danger of wondering aimlessly through the vast halls and missing the point of the event. To me it was somewhere that I could get the latest information on new vehicles and products which related directly to my job.

All of this straight from the horse's mouth as well. I am extremely disappointed that the show will not take place during 2009 but completely understand the reasons behind the decision to cancel it and very supportive of that decision.

Roll on 2010 when the show hopes to return and I for one will be one of the first in line for a ticket.
