YOUNG AT HEART: An opportunity for the fleet industry

When an MP says they're willing to help you, and all you have to do is tell them how, you know you're on to a winner.

BusinessCar has revealed that Stephen Ladyman MP is willing to push a best practice guide if ACFO can write it.

If the fleet management industry can successfully construct a best practice for driver licence checks, which crucially must include grey fleet, then there is the potential for public and private sector businesses to make a significant contribution to road safety.

It would also help put ACFO and the fleet management sector as a whole on a much stronger footing with the Government, possibly giving them a greater say in other areas of UK legislation.

But don't be under an illusion - getting this right will take time and BusinessCar will bring you all the updates.

No more Saab?

It's a shame, but as BusinessCar went to press it seemed those leasing firms that stopped offering Saabs earlier on this year may well be proved right.

It's never good to see a car company go under, but the harsh realities of business mean the world just doesn't need that many car brands.

But the question remains: is losing just one brand enough of a slim-down? It shows the importance of picking cars with strong residual values as this is one of the best indicators of world confidence in a marque.
