The start point for the best source of fleet information

YOUNG AT HEART: Do as they say, and not as they do?

This week's Government announcement that the OGC - the civil service's procurement expert - is launching a campaign to lower grey fleet risk should be wholly welcomed.

The public sector is the largest user of grey fleet as a business travel option. And as BusinessCar showed earlier this year, it's also an area lacking in even the most basic of safety checks.

At the time BusinessCar criticised the Government for not practicing what they preached - and we only investigated licence checking.

It's interesting to see the speakers at the OGC's conference in November are mostly the ones BusinessCar rated as having the best licence checking policy for both regular and grey fleet drivers.

But there is an exception. The Health and Safety Executive only checks the driving licences of grey fleet drivers when they join the organisation - and that licence check is only visual.

Journalists aren't allowed into the conference so we won't be able to challenge the HSE's speaker on this matter, but attendees will.

So if you go, be sure to let me know if it's a case of 'do as I say, not as I do'.
