FLEET SPEAK: 23 August 2011 - Techies go from strength to strength

I've got to admit to small-scale scepticism when BusinessCar, under its previous leader Tristan Young, launched the Fleet Technology Awards. But it's not often I'm so pleased to be proved wrong, and the leap in both quality and quantity of entries again this year showed that the industry's only specific technology prizes have grown into an influential and worthwhile set of awards.

The judging this year was, in several cases a complete nightmare, with anything up to half a dozen leading candidates in some sectors. The two new categories, Best App and the Innovation Award, were two of the most hotly contested, validating their introduction, and the judges struggled to separate many of the top names in the industry, leading to feelings of guilt that only one could win!

But we've chosen the winners across a dozen categories, so congratulations to them, and enjoy the feeling of being crowned best in your sector. See who we've picked in the four-page Techie Awards special starting on page 9.

Sad news reached BusinessCar earlier this month with the death of Ken Rogers at the age of 71. Most recently editor-at-large of Fleet World, Ken was a renowned and highly respected industry figure, and someone I knew personally for more than a decade as a skilled and accomplished journalist with an excellent dry wit sense of humour. All at BusinessCar would like to offer their condolences to Ken's family.
