BusinessCar deputy editor Paul Barker puts 13 testing questions to his boss, editor, Tristan Young
1. What was your first job? Paperboy – still delivering news now.
2. What was your first company car? Never had an official company car, my first long term test car was an S-reg Land Rover Freelander. I became very familiar with my local garage.
3. What did you listen to on your last car journey? The Today Programme on Radio 4.
4. What one thing do you wish you could do better? Public speaking
5. What’s your biggest achievement? At home it’s my growing family, at work it’s founding BusinessCar
6. Who are your role models? I’ve got to give a name check to Tony Willard, he was editor of Automotive Management – where I started out as a reporter.
7. What’s the stupidest thing you’ve done? My paper round on the morning of the October 1987 storm. I was way too dedicated and had to climb over a lot of fallen trees.
8. What was the most hotly debated topic at your last meeting? Criteria for the BusinessCar Power list
9. What’s in your garage? A Toyota MR2 Mk1 in very good condition, it’s currently for sale if anyone’s interested
10. What’s the worst thing about your job? Phone calls from PR people asking if I’ve got their latest press release
11. What one law would you make or change? Death penalty for mini cab drivers who show no lane discipline on the M25 between the M4 and the M23.
12. What keeps you awake at night? How I’m going to afford a second child
13. Who is your ideal celebrity date? Drew Barrymore or Anna Friel, I’m not fussy.
