BusinessCar Awards 2014 - Small 4x4: BMW X3

Date: 28 January 2014

The BMW X3's victory in the Small 4x4 category is one of six BusinessCar Awards wins in 2014 for the German manufacturer and helps illustrate the breadth of the brand's fleet strength.

The Small 4x4 category is a tough one too: there's not only a huge number of competitors, but almost all of the prestige brands have a car in this segment.

Despite BMW's impressive showing in the BusinessCar Awards in recent years, this is the first time the X3 has won this class. It's also broken a two-year winning run for the Range Rover Evoque.

BMW upgraded the X3 just over a year ago, and those improvements show, particularly for fleets.

The German marque introduced a new entry-level model priced from £28,580, which offered the best emissions and fuel consumption in the line-up at 135g/km of CO2 and 55.4mpg for the 18d Sdrive model.

The current-generation X3 has a reputation for being a great on-road drive - typical of cars bearing the BMW badge. What's not so well-known is that in Xdrive all-wheel drive form it's also a competent off-roader - something that's not always the case with rival small 4x4s.
