The start point for the best source of fleet information

BusinessCar Awards 2014 - Sporting Car: BMW 4-series

Date: 28 January 2014

BMW's new 4-series coupe has ended a seven-year winning streak in the Sporting Car category for arch-rival Audi across the TT, A5 and?R8 models.

Where previously the coupe and convertible versions of the 3-series were simply part of the 3-series range, BMW has, with this new generation, decided to make the two-door versions into a dedicated model.

This strategic move has also justified BMW putting in additional engineering effort to produce a more accomplished car.

Power for the 4-series, in fleet terms, comes from BMW's excellent 2.0-litre diesel, which gives the 420d an impressive set of stats: 0-62mph comes up in 7.5 seconds, the combined fuel figure is 60.1mpg and the CO2 output is just 124g/km (and the automatic gearbox version is even better).

For those after more performance, there's a 430d and 435d (the latter being capable of 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds), both of which still beat 50mpg.

These upgrades, a new name and some of the most efficient engine technology on sale ensure running costs are low and as a result, fleets love them. Hence the win.
