BusinessCar Awards 2015 - Mainstream Supermini: Ford Fiesta

Date: 27 January 2015

With the supermini category split into mainstream and premium elements this year, it's the Ford Fiesta that emerges from the shadow of the Mini to take this award.

The Fiesta, the UK's biggest-selling car, offers an excellent combination of style, performance, handling, kit and efficiency. It has a new look for early 2013, gaining the grille now seen on the facelifted Focus and new Mondeo launched this month. The 85g/km model (the Econetic) comes in three trim levels, and the Ecoboost 1.0-litre petrol emits under 100g/km in both 100hp and 125hp outputs.

Standard equipment across the range includes MyKey, enabling the driver to set preferences for the speed-limit reminder and audio volume, and ensuring systems such as traction control can't be deactivated.

Highly commended: Volkswagen Polo

Highly Commended is VW's Polo, a model that went through a mid-life revamp last summer, with a subtle restyle and more safety kit. VW's first petrol Bluemotion will launch soon as a Polo, emitting 94g/km, while at the other end of the scale the 192hp GTi arrives in March.
