BusinessCar Awards 2015 - Manufacturer of the Year: BMW

Date: 27 January 2015

It's another strong performance in the BusinessCar awards from BMW, with it picking up multiple prizes this year. And it's the fifth time in a row fleet operators have voted it as Manufacturer of the Year.

BMW has increased total sales by more than 10% in the past year and the brand has 15 new products earmarked for launch in the UK in 2015, including facelifts, new models and replacements for existing cars.
Highlights of 2014 included the new 2-series Active Tourer and 4-series Gran Coupe. Both opened up the brand to new customers.

The 2-series Active Tourer also rewrote what defines a BMW. The firm has always built rear-wheel drive cars, but the Active Tourer is its first front-wheel drive offering. Moving into the MPV segment meant a different approach, and it's enabled BMW to price the car below £25,000.

The arrival of the 4-series Gran Coupe gives BMW a competitor against the Audi A5. It increases the firm's upper medium range to a total of six models, encompassing the 3-series saloon, Touring, GT and 4-series Coupe, Cabriolet and Gran Coupe.

BMW now has 166 models with a CO2 output below the key capital allowance cut-off figure of 130g/km. It demonstrates the breadth of the brand's range, which incorporates the low-emissions Efficient Dynamics technology and driver enjoyment.

Away from the new products, BMW has taken steps in the past 12 months to improve its customer service. It added two additional corporate sales managers in an attempt to reduce the amount of fleet customers each sales manager attends to. The firm also installed a customer contact centre this year, which has helped to improve service levels by reducing demands on its corporate sales managers.

The centre now  acts as a first port of call for dealing with the administration of customer management and demonstrator vehicles.

Further ahead in 2015, BMW will launch a new car-sharing scheme with Sixt, and a facelifted 6-series is on the way in March to compete in the executive segment.
