BusinessCar Awards 2015 - Premium Upper Medium: BMW 3-series

Date: 26 January 2015

BusinessCar readers continue to sing the praises of the BMW model range in the premium section of our awards, and once again the 3-series has taken the Premium Upper Medium prize.

The 3-series has ruled the upper medium category since 2009 and this victory makes it six years in a row. Long seen as the benchmark in this sector, it clearly is still regarded by corporate drivers as the ultimate reward in the company car park.

The 3-series is better behind the wheel than rivals and offers class-leading whole-life running costs. Combined with the prestigious badge, you have an unbeatable package, and one that still makes financial sense.

The 320d SE Business has 184hp, yet emissions are 120g/km and it can return 62.8mpg. It also has the lowest benefit-in-kind payments for a 20% tax payer at £102 a month; the Audi A4 SE Technik is £105. The 316d offers emissions of 118g/km, putting it in the 19% BIK tax band. New additions to the 3-series range in 2014 included an eight-speed transmission, which features Proactive Drive, a system that shifts gear at the precise moment so the car is adapted to the current driving situation.
