The start point for the best source of fleet information

BusinessCar Awards 2016: Executive - BMW 5-series

Date: 26 January 2016

The BMW 5-series returned to the executive top spot in 2015 after an absence of several years thanks to the Jaguar XF, and it continues to keep its grip on this award.

Despite very tough competition from the new XF, the 5-series remains as appealing as ever, thanks to its wide range of impressively frugal engines, its long standard equipment list, and reasonable whole-life costs.
The most obvious fleet choice is the 520d. It emits just 109g/km of CO2 and offers the prospect of 68.9mpg economy in automatic form, while being able to sprint from a standstill to 62mph in just 7.7 seconds.

However, even the range-topping diesel secures a reasonable 25% in benefit-in-kind taxation. The petrols are efficient, too, with the speedy 528i still being capable of 46.3mpg and attracting a relatively low 23% BIK charge.

As for equipment, all 5-series models have satnav, connected services (including an emergency call function) leather seats, Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic headlights and wipers.

The 5-series also comes with standard run-flat tyres, meaning that users should be able to get to their destination, even with a punctured tyre.
