BusinessCar Awards 2016: Large 4x4 - BMW X5

Date: 26 January 2016

This is the eighth BusinessCar Large 4x4 title the BMW X5 has secured. The vehicle has more to offer business users than ever before in 2016, courtesy of the introduction of a plug-in hybrid version.

The X5 may undoubtedly be a large car but it's still a viable fleet option thanks to some impressive economy and emissions figures, all the more so in plug-in form.

Topping the diesel economy tables is the two-wheel drive sDrive 25d. It emits 139g/km - admirably low for a vehicle of this scale and securing it a BIK rate of 25% - and returns 53.3mpg economy, at least officially; all this despite offering more than enough muscle to shift the X5's substantial mass with vigour.

The big news, however, comes in the form of the recently introduced xDrive 40e plug-in hybrid. This has a BIK rate of just 13% - which is set to rise to a still low 15% at the turn of the next tax year - thanks to a 77g/km emissions figure that sees it return official fuel economy of 85.6mpg.

In electric mode only, the four-wheel drive hybrid can travel at up to 75mph or, with a lighter right foot, cover up to 19 miles. It cracks the benchmark 0-62mph sprint in just 6.8 second
