BusinessCar Awards 2016: Mainstream Lower Medium - Ford Focus

Date: 26 January 2016

Ford's busy 2015 kicked off with the arrival of a mid-life revision for its lower medium fleet king, the Focus. It was the first act in a year that also saw the UK's number one fleet brand launch all-new Mondeo, Galaxy and S-max models, and revise the C-max range.

The Focus received Ford's large corporate grille, a rear-end restyle, specification upgrades and new powertrains. The latter included the 1.5-litre diesel in 95hp and 120hp forms. Emissions fell to 88g/km with the Econetic model, and higher-specification models got the new eight-inch infotainment screen. The City Stop system, which halts the car if it senses an impending accident at speeds of up to 30mph, became standard from Titanium trim too.

Ford also added a touch of fleet-friendly excitement to its Focus range last summer with the arrival of a sporty diesel ST. Previously only a 250hp petrol model, the ST, available in five-door hatchback or estate forms, now comes with a 185hp 2.0-litre diesel engine, emitting just 110g/km.

The Focus beat last year's winner the Volkswagen Golf to this award, but in this highly competitive mainstream lower medium segment, any number of models could triumph in 12 months' time.
