BusinessCar Awards 2016: Mainstream Supermini - Ford Fiesta

Date: 26 January 2016

The UK's biggest-selling car retains its Mainstream Supermini of the Year title for 2016, proving fleets are as fond of the famous little hatchback as retail buyers.

That's evident from the 2015 sales figures released by the SMMT that show more than 133,000 new Fiestas were registered last year, - 41,000 vehicles more than the second best-selling car, the Vauxhall Corsa.

The broad Fiesta line-up offers CO2 emissions as low as 82g/km courtesy of the Econetic-branded 95hp 1.5 diesel engine, while the non-Econetic 75hp and 95hp diesels emit 94g/km. Impressively, the award-winning Ecoboost 100hp 1.0 petrol achieves just under 100g/km.

Other strengths include neat styling, and a ride and handling combination that is almost unmatched in the sector (especially so in the case of the Fiesta ST). Equipment levels are decent and include Ford's Sync media and voice-control system.

Ford's supermini was facelifted in 2013. It means the next-generation model can't be too far away, but it will have some work to do to emulate the success of the current car.
