BusinessCar Awards 2016: Service Supplier of the Year - The AA

Date: 26 January 2016

It seems the AA's yellow branding should have a gold tint to it because the famous motoring organisation has picked up this award for the third time in an Olympic year, with its previous victories coming in 2008 and 2012.

Best known for its fleet of recovery vehicles that can be seen each day on Britain's roads helping stranded motorists, the AA also offers a huge range of additional services for businesses and consumers.

They include windscreen repair, car battery replacement, wrong-fuel assistance, replacement keys, and car transportation, as well as a wealth of insurance and financial products, plus risk management services through the company's Drivetech brand. In addition, the organisation offers the Fleet Advantage Card, which can be used to pay for fuel through the far-reaching Allstar network, as well as other services including car servicing, batteries, exhausts, tyres and windscreens.

The company disposed of its AA Autowindshields windscreen business in August, selling it to Auto Windscreens for an undisclosed sum. The deal included a 10-year contract to supply services to its members, as well as to its business and insurance customers.

The AA also moved to increase its presence in the tyre market during 2015 with the launch of AA Tyres. This provides a mobile tyre-fitting service for both members and non-members, enabling rubber replacement at both home and work. The company says that 15% of its 3.5 million call-outs each year relate to tyres, the second most common reason. The new service offers 2.5% discounts to AA members and a price-match guarantee.

AA Tyres also joined the TyreSafe not-for-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness of tyre maintenance and the dangers of worn or defective tyres. AA Tyres director David Bruce said: "With around half of new cars no longer carrying a spare, routine tyre checks are more important than ever."

Its membership of TyreSafe is just another example of the AA's move into new areas as it continues to serve the corporate car arena. Clearly, its activities are being well received by users as the company has been voted our Service Supplier of the Year for the third time.
