Techies 2014: Best Service, Maintenance and Repair System - Autoglass Vanbrella

Date: 26 August 2014

Not a piece of technology in the traditional sense, Autoglass's Vanbrella is an intelligent design application that cuts vehicle downtime by avoiding the need to reschedule windscreen replacement or repair appointments due to bad weather.

So far fitted to more than 845 of the company's 1200-
strong fleet of Ford Transit vans, with the majority of the remainder coming this year, the Vanbrella is attached to mobile technicians' vans, deploying in 30 seconds to cover vehicles as large as the Transit.

Glass chip repair takes around 30 minutes, and the bonding on replacement windscreens an hour, but wet weather can have a serious impact upon the adhesion, so Autoglass previously had to reschedule appointment due to the weather.

That had an implication in terms of vehicle downtime if a crack or windscreen damage is keeping the car off the road. According to Autoglass, more than 90% of its repairs are at a customer location, so this innovation takes a big step in helping fleets keep their cars on the road in the inclement weather that dogs both British winter and summer time.
