The start point for the best source of fleet information

Techies 2014: Editor's Choice - Alphabet AlphaElectric

Date: 26 August 2014

Highly Commended: Volvo D4

Alphabet is bidding to place itself as the leasing company leader in electric vehicles, and a large part of that is its AlphaElectric consultancy service. Rather than simply agreeing to fund and supply an EV if the customer asks for one, AlphaElectric is helping make the business case for plug-in models in certain applications, and offering guidance on the installation of charge points.

The company has also developed a mobile app to help drivers and fleets assess the suitability of electric vehicles for their needs. Step one is type, geographical location and distance of required travel, before moving on to look at vehicle characteristics including boot space and doors. The technology then compares BIK, corporate tax relief and whole-life cost calculations.

Alphabet has confirmed it will be updating its system with new plug-in models as they come on stream.
Highly commended is Volvo's D4 diesel engine technology.

The brand has propelled itself to the top of the class for performance versus efficiency on its larger cars, with the S60 model getting under 100g/km for CO2 emissions despite offering 181hp of power. That sort of combination is offered across the V40, S60, V60, V70 and S80 model line-ups.
