Being able to share best practice and benchmark risk management policies with other fleets can be invaluable for businesse

eDriving Fleet, through an online portal called Virtual Risk Manager, was one of the first companies to offer this service, and to date more than 1400 organisations have used its Fleet Safety Benchmarking tool, that forms part of the firm's Virtual Risk Manager, including BT, Royal Mail, Iron Mountain, Johnson & Johnson and Nestlé.

New companies signing up to the tool are asked a series of questions across a number of key areas including company culture, driver recruitment, road safety policies and journey management.
Key company data like risk assessment, training, incident reporting and telematics is integrated into the online platform for fleets to share and compare how they rank against each other.

The Fleet Safety Benchmarking tool enables employers across the public and private sectors to measure their own at-work road-safety performance and cherry-pick ideas to introduce into their business. These initiatives and the capabilities to benchmark across the industry can benefit all fleets irrespective of fleet size, vehicle type or business sector.

Using the tool also helps make organisations aware of the business and operational benefits of good work-related road-safety management and helps to make the business case for investment into road safety internally with senior board members.

According to the firm, the 12 most active firms in the Fleet Safety Benchmarking tool represent around 170,000 drivers and 80,000 vehicles. Interactive Driving Systems states that these companies have saved more than £11m in direct collision costs by using the tool over three years through claim rate and cost per vehicle reductions.
