Business hangs on Sir Rod's report

Date: 01 December 2006   |   Author: John Mahoney

Road charging is likely to move one step closer today on the publication of a report by former British Airways chief Sir Rod Eddington.

The Government-commissioned report by Sir Rod is expected to call for massive investment in bus and rail infrastructure, including possibly a high-speed rail link connecting London and Scotland, but it is the likely recommendation of road charging that will cause the greatest controversy.

Sir Rod is expected to give road charging the nod as the only possible way to address the need to reduce congestion and emissions.

Pundits expect road tolls to raise £16bn a year in revenue, but the true cost to business remains unclear.

Visit BusinessCar.co.uk for more updates following the report's publication later today.
