Cadillac plans UK product push

Cadillac is planning a UK product onslaught with four new right-hand drive models available to business drivers by the middle of 2008.
During the final quarter of next year, General Motors' luxury premium brand will introduce its large saloon, the STS, which straddles BMW's 5- and 7-Series models in size terms, in right-hand-drive form.
This will follow a likely February RHD launch of the SRX 4x4 crossover, priced between £40,000 and £45,000 with V6 3.6-litre and V8 4.6-litre engines challenging Mercedes' M-class, Land Rover's Discovery and Volvo's XC90.
Arguably the most significant upcoming fleet arrival from Cadillac will be the Swedish-built estate car version of the BLS, with its 1.9-litre GM diesel power unit, due to debut at next September's Frankfurt show prior to a UK market launch "by the end of 2007" according to a GM source.
British fleet customers have to wait until mid-2008 for the completely new CTS, sitting between BMW's 3- and 5-series, which will take its public bow at January's Detroit motor show.
Diesel versions of the SRX and CTS are not planned for at least 18 months, which Cadillac's European management concede is a major obstacle to significant corporate sales. However, the growing number of RHD Cadillacs will be exploited as the brand increasingly harnesses GM's fleet expertise.
