Delivery slump hits van sales

Date: 05 July 2006

The UK's home delivery service saw a slump in growth last year, with the £37 billion sector recording 3.2% growth, compared with at least 4.8% in each of the past five years.

The report, from Verdict Research, at least partly explains the struggling light commercial van market in 2005, with overall sales of commercial vehicles dropping 2.0%.

The report claims mail order home delivery sales partly from internet shopping have dropped by £585m since 2002, almost half of which was in the last 12 months alone.
