The start point for the best source of fleet information

Freelander RVs top class

Date: 18 October 2006

User-choosers wanting the new Ranger Rover V8 diesel might have to wait up to a year for the new model, according to Land Rover's UK managing director John Edwards.

However, this high demand is expected to mean excellent residual values for the luxury 4x4 and could see the diesel Range Rover emulating the new Freelander's performance at the brand's entry level.

New figures from Glass's Guide show the Freelander 2 TD4 GS should return 48% of its value after three years and 60,000 miles, putting it at the top of its class above both the BMW X3 and Toyota Rav4.

Speaking exclusively to BusinessCar about Land Rover's fleet sales ahead of the Freelander's launch, Edwards said: "We've still got work to do here. We've not taken the market as seriously as we should have done. With the new Freelander we've been thinking about the way in which user-choosers get their vehicles.

"The RV people have been out to see the car and we're pleased with where the car has ended up. It will be in showrooms on December 7."

The new Freelander's price, which starts at £20,600, will feature Land Rover's new carbon-neutral scheme funding which offsets the car's emissions for the first 45,000 miles.

"It's early days for the carbon-neutral scheme. I don't think that people will buy a Land Rover because of the scheme, but it may make someone more inclined to buy one," said Edwards.
