Gordon goes green

Date: 07 December 2006

Gordon Brown

Petrol and diesel duty has risen 1.25 pence per litre, inline with inflation, following the Chancellor's Pre-Budget Report.

The Chancellor has however promised to look at continuing the bio-petrol and bio-diesel discount currently set at 20ppl.

In the 2006 Pre-Budget Report Gordon Brown also revealed there would be further tax-breaks for company cars running bio-fuels.

Company car tax has been left broadly unchanged in the PBR. The Chancellor confirmed that from 6 April 2008 the lower threshold for the 15% CO2 tax banding would drop to 135g/km from the current 140g/km.

Also confirmed was the new lower 10% tax banding for cars emitting 120g/km CO2 or less.
