In a plan to expose Hyundai to a wider audience, the company is rolling out an affinity group programme for staff of major companies and multinationals.

Hyundai has two schemes in place already, although the volumes to date have been small.

"While major fleet sales will continue to receive support, we plan to offer non-company car qualifying staff the opportunity to drive a Hyundai on preferential terms," said Jeff Peyton-Bruhl, national fleet manager.

"If we can get Hyundai recognised through the HR function, then we have a greater opportunity to improve our fleet position with those companies. But the number of multinational affinity groups we are approaching in this way will be dozens rather than hundreds."

In addition Hyundai is planning for the introduction of a panel van with a 2.5-litre diesel by the end of 2008. It could also be joined by a pick-up.

In the meantime, Hyundai will introduce a diesel-engined Sonata this month, followed by the Grandeur model "in very limited numbers". The 233PS 3.3-litre V6 luxury model, if popular, could also be followed by a 145PS 2.2-litre diesel version.

Next year Hyundai will further expand its range with a new lower medium segment vehicle still under wraps.
