National takes on rivals for global hire business

Date: 12 September 2006

National Car Rental is launching Drive National, an international version of its established UK-based carhirebooker.com online booking facility.

Drive National enables staff who travel on international business to make reservations throughout National's global network. The system recognises a company's corporate travel policy, and allows access only to allocated car grades within that policy.

In addition to supporting a company's travel rules, the system displays recent online reservation history, and enables specific company messages to be displayed on the homepage regarding travel-related issues - such as specific road regulations of which staff need to be aware.

"Achieving effective cost control and ensuring travel policy rules are adhered to are some of the biggest challenges facing multinationals," commented John Leigh, senior vice president, National Car Rental.

"Drive National addresses these issues while establishing National as a truly global brand for car hire," continued Leigh. "We're the third most recognised car hire brand on a global basis. We've made good progress in attracting new corporate business, and because of that we need products that respond to their requirements."

Drive National has taken 12 months to develop and has been piloted with several of National's key international customers. Leigh expected the addition of a full management information suite to be ready by spring next year.

. National's owner, US-based Vanguard Car Rental Group Inc, is currently in an Initial Public Offering.
