New Citroen concept reveals a greener future

Date: 12 September 2006

C-metisse carries future Citroen styling cues

Citroen is hinting at a glamourous green future with the unveiling of the technologically advanced C-metisse concept.

Once past the intimidating and aggressive front-end styling reminiscent of specialist carmaker TVR, the C-metisse is a spacious, comfortable four-seater that could provide the basis for a big Citroen coupe in the future. At the very least, expect some of the styling cues to appear on future Citroen models.

What's almost certain to feature in future Citroens as early as 2010 lies under the carbon-fibre skin.

The C-metisse is the testbed for the French firm's first application of its Hybride technology with the acclaimed PSA diesel V6.

Unusually, two electric motors are contained within the rear wheels, reducing the need for a rear axle, saving weight.

Performance lives up to its looks - the big Citroen sprints to 62mph in just 6.2secs, but thanks to the hybrid technology, averages 43mpg.
